Mentors I have yet to met

Mentors I have yet to meet

My goal is to make Toronto the mentorship capital of the world. So many people of asked me who are my mentors. I have many mentors  and these are the ones that have been most influential recently. When I mentioned to them that some of those mentors I have yet to meet, they also want to know if they could share in their wisdom. For each of them, I have included some of the resources that I have consumed (or are partially done on my “to-read” list). Many have way more available so if they are interesting to you, I encourage you to dig deeper.

Anthony Robbins

I grew up with Tony Robbins as the infomercial guy. He had tapes available with his motivational message. However, I only started to consume his content this year and so much of it was SIWIKE®! My earlier perception of him as just a motivational speaker was misplaced and he is a transformer of lives. With a background in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), and having worked with many high-profile organizations and people from celebrities to people, his messages hold a lot of value to me.
Podcasts: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/podcasts/ Various interviews and excerpts that share is message of a variety or personal and professional development topics. There are not too many episodes as of the original publish date of this book, so you should be able to consume them and catch up.
Books:
Unlimited Power : The New Science Of Personal Achievement and
Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny! (Paperback)
Books that I found myself nodding my head to in countless chapters. Also, shaking my head as I said to myself “why didn’t I pick up this book before?!?”. Tony is SIWIKE® embodied for me. The book is aptly name as there are concepts as well as tactical tips to help you find more of yourself and make changes for the better. Unlimited Power came out first. I read Awaken the Giant Within first (possibly because it started with an A so it popped up on my kindle first), and I’m not convinced that order matters

Gary Vaynerchuk

Although Gary Vee is known as a digital marketer and business man, he has views on self awareness that is personally identify with. I started consuming Gary’s podcast late 2016 and more for his marketing content. But I found myself resonating with many of his views on self-awareness and emotional intelligence. His content is more recent, so I couldn’t have benefitted from it during university, but you can.
Podcasts: https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/podcast/ I started listening to the podcast when it was named the Ask Gary Vee show. There are a lot, and even though most are relatively short, he has start creating content almost daily, so it might take you a while to catch up.
Books:
AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur’s Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness is not a transcription of the podcasts. It’s more of a highlight reel. Lots of important nuggets in there. He has other books, that are on my to-read list

Lewis Howes

Lewis is a pro athlete turned life-style entrepreneur, I aligned with his mission to help others do what they love. From an athlete, the moved to being a social media guru and now helps people on the entrepreneurial journey.
Podcasts: https://lewishowes.com/sogpodcast/ With over 500 episodes, there is a lot of content to cover.
Books: I haven’t yet read his books, but they are on my to-read list and will get to them soon enough but I am a regular consumer of his podcast content!

Jim Rohn

A wealth of knowledge that could probably fit into any of the toolkit sections, and put him in the finance section as his views of money and its related value were eye opening to understand. Author of many books that are all worthwhile reads. He passed away in 2009 and is cited as an influence or being a direct mentor of many of the mentors I’ve mention. You can see some of Jim Rohn’s principles in their ideas.
Books:
Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle a good starter for personal development andThe Jim Rohn Guides Complete Set guides to Time Management, Personal Development, Leadership, Goal Setting and Communication. The books are aptly named and provide the wisdom of Jim Rohn on the respective topics

Steven Covey

One of the greats in the world of personal development.
Books: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
and First Things First are considered classics in personal and professional development. They were not as easy for me to consume based on their writing style, but had a ton of information to learn from.

Carol Dweck Ph.D.

Carol Dweck’s book Mindset, which originated and popularized the concepts of Growth mindset solidified what I had learned and experienced into terms that were understandable and grounded in science. Her concepts are making their way into the mainstream education system.
Books:Mindset: The New Psychology of Success is a short read whose main concept of a Growth Mindset helped me solidify the concept of SIWIKE® to share to others, as I definitely feel this was Stuff I Wish I Knew Earlier. Although in this case, it wouldn’t have been available before 2006.

Who are your mentors you have yet to meet?

This is definitely not a comprehensive list, but will hopefully be a good starting point. I’d love to hear from you and learn more about your mentors that you have yet to meet. And if I’ve been a mentor to you, and we have not yet met, I’d love to connect. Reach out to me at luki@focusinspired.com
