Title Card - Taking Time For Self-Care

Taking Time for Self-Care

In a world where hustle and self-sacrifice are the norm, sometimes it can feel like there is no time to help yourself. If you are doing something that is considered fun or relaxing, you’re probably doing the wrong thing because there is undoubtedly something else that should be taking precedence. If you’re not doing something to get yourself ahead in this world, then rethink your actions.

The thing is, I couldn’t agree more with that last statement, but not for the reasons that such a person saying it might intend it. Taking time for self-care is a highly important piece that is often overlooked, and the people locked in hustle culture often fail to see this or take it seriously. Sure, they might be getting a lot of things done, but imagine how much more they could be doing if their mind was sharp. If they think they’re doing a great job now, imagine how much better they could be if they didn’t have a constant mental block from being worn out and tired. People stuck in hustle culture are often locked in a vicious cycle of becoming slower because they’re more and more tired, and therefore having less time to do things because they’re moving slower. It becomes harder and harder to break that cycle the longer you’re in it.

Well, that stops today. If this sounds like you, and you feel constantly tired because you’re always on the move, make today the day that you take time for yourself. It doesn’t have to be long, many people believe that even ten minutes a day can go a long way to getting started on the road to success. If you’re a workaholic, chances are you have some vacation days or sick leave stored up. Take a day just to relax. Don’t put it off, because you’re always putting it off. Find something you enjoy that doesn’t involve work and let yourself be free.

Self-care doesn’t just involve taking fun time, it also involves your daily routine. Maybe you take some time in the morning to exercise and start getting in shape. Grab yourself a good breakfast each morning to ensure your body has the energy it needs to keep going throughout the day. Ensure you’re going to bed at a reasonable time. Chances are, you will complete your work quicker and with a higher quality if you’re well-rested, properly fed, and feeling like your body is in shape.

These are only a few things that generally apply to everyone for self-care, but there are many more things you can do that may be specific to your personal situation. Perhaps you’re married and have a partner who is just as busy as you are. Make a pact to spend some quality time together. Make some food, go for a walk, or just talk together on the couch. Your relationship is a very good way to have self-care for both parties simultaneously, and it is a very important part of your life. Maybe you have a pet, take it for a walk or play with it for a while. The possibilities are endless depending on situation, and it would definitely be a good idea to take some time and discover things you can do that are helpful for your personal self-care routine.

Whatever routine you may choose, just make sure that you are doing one. You will thank yourself for doing so later, as you will be happier, healthier, and more productive than ever before. Who wouldn’t want that?
