BOOK 2019: The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho [BOOK REVIEW]

If you’ve been following my content, you’ll probably be wondering what a fiction book is doing in the pile of personal and professional development books I typically read. The Alchemist was mentioned numerous times by various people whose content I consume. I had just finished Tony Robbins 600 page mammoth of a book Money: Master the Game and was in the mood for something lighter so I one-clicked it onto my Kindle and I was pleasantly happy with the decision.

The Alchemist : overview

The Alchemist is a tale of a shepherd turned adventurer on a quest to find treasure he saw in a dream. His dream points him to Egypt as his treasure is buried by the pyramids. He meets a king, then a thief, which causes him to put his plans on hold. While working for a shop keeper he regains his purpose and meets and Englishman who is seeking an alchemist. They venture into the desert where he meets the woman of his dreams in the midst of a tribal war. He finally gets to see the pyramids in Egypt and search for his treasure, which isn’t there. He does eventually find the “treasure” he is looking for back home.
I almost don’t want to say too much more as I don’t want this to be a spoiler. Plus the book is about a hundred pages so is an easy read so you might as well pick up your copy and read it on your own instead of reading a spoiler.

Why a fiction book is here

The book has great story-telling and the narrative is of a person finding their calling. Their thought process and narrative is quite thought provoking and you might be able to relate your own journey. Many of the insights were SIWIKE for me and wish I had come across the Alchemist earlier in my career.
